Bailey started riding bikes from a very young age. He received a significant amount of “hand me down” bikes from his sister complete with pom poms and pink frames. Bailey jumped on his first race bike at the age of 16 where he competed in the TransRockies bike race. After trying his hand at most sports offered in high school, Bailey found his niche in road cycling.

Bailey competed for a local club in Calgary where he progressed from Cat 5 to Cat 1 in a single season. His first significant result came during the Tour de White Rock where he finished fifth in the hill climb. For the next 4 seasons, Bailey competed in races all over North America for the Trek Red Truck Amateur Cycling Team. The exposure to bigger and better races helped develop Bailey as a strong all rounder. Throughout the years Bailey has been working on attaining his Kinesiology degree from the University of Calgary and will be graduating this upcoming spring 2015. He also works at the National Cycling Centre in Calgary that supports development cycling programs.
